Digital piracy encompasses various unauthorized actions related to copyrighted materials, including movies, music, software, and digital content. These activities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Illegal Streaming: Broadcasting or viewing copyrighted content without proper authorization through online platforms.
  2. Unauthorized Downloading: Acquiring copyrighted material from the internet without the permission of the rights holder.
  3. Illegal Sharing: Distributing copyrighted works to others through file-sharing networks or peer-to-peer platforms.
  4. Sale of Pirated Content: Selling or distributing counterfeit copies of copyrighted material, such as DVDs or software, for profit.
  5. Use of Cracked Software: Utilizing software that has been tampered with to bypass licensing or activation requirements.

Piracy leads to significant financial losses for businesses and content creators. It undermines the value of intellectual property, reduces revenue, discourages creativity and innovation, and affects employment within industries like film, music, publishing, and software development.

Legal measures include issuing Copyright Infringement Notice, Cease-and-desist letters, filing Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notices across social media platforms, pursuing litigation against infringers, and seeking injunctions or monetary damages in court could be taken against the pirate for illegal use of your content. BLOCK X is equipped with experienced lawyers who can help you in end-to-end procedures of these legal measures.

You received a copyright strike/notice or DMCA Notice from BLOCK X because your content is believed to have infringed someone else’s copyright. This could be due to unauthorized use of copyrighted material, such as images, music, videos, or text, without proper permission or licensing.

Additionally, publicly posting images/videos of copyrighted material taken in theatres where videography is strictly prohibited and using pirated images/videos in any matter falls under copyright infringement which is an offense. BLOCK X works 24*7 to take down any copyright infringements on any platforms.

When you receive a copyright notice from BLOCK X, you are required to refrain from posting such infringing content in future. Failure to do so could lead to further legal consequences, such as your account being suspended or terminated, or even lawsuits. It’s essential to take the notice seriously and act accordingly.

Fair use is a legal doctrine that allows limited use of copyrighted material without permission for specific purposes, such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research. However, fair use is complex and context-dependent, considering factors like the purpose of use, the nature of the work, the amount used, and the effect on the market for the original work. It’s best to seek legal advice when considering fair use. Please refer (blog) to know more on fair use of content.

If you receive a copyright strike by BLOCK X and you believe you have the right to use the content that was removed, you can file a counter-notice.

If you genuinely uploaded the infringing material by mistake and you achieved a resolution with the copyright owner, you can submit a retraction request. See below to know more on how to file a retraction request.

Send a detailed email with all the following required information:

  • Your contact information

  • A description of the removed content and where it appeared

  • Case Reference ID

  • Screenshot of the infringement report

  • Evidence to prove that you achieved a resolution with the copyright owner

  • Any other details that you think would help us

Upon receiving the same, we will retract the infringement report only if our client confirms the same.

Note: We will not process and respond to other retraction requests which do not meet the above-mentioned criteria and we will consider them not valid for retraction. If you continuously send such emails, our system will mark them as spam..

Ensure you have valid documentation proving your right to use the content, such as a license or written permission. Once you submit the counter-notice, if it is genuine and fair, BLOCK X will forward the same to the copyright owner and will take the necessary actions.
